Week 5

"Their is no vapid, irresponsible happiness." - The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas (Leguin)

Week 5 - Creative Writing (Sci-Fi Scene)

“Today’s mission is to chant the supreme leaders name for 5 cycles with persons lips sealed. The first to mispronounce the Supreme Leaders name will be sentenced to smiling for 10 cycles”, said the commanding officer. “Copy interim leader, people shall abide by said command with enthusiasm and haste” yelled the group of young soldiers.  “Wonderfully said mags (short for maggots)” replied the soldier.

As the group began the chant relentlessly the officer paced back and forth across the auditorium analyzing the group of 100 plus youths. He noticed one young boy passed out on the floor from what appeared to be exhaustion. Unfortunately for the boy he was in for a severe punishment; for ceasing to chant the Supreme Leaders name was considered one of the worst crimes in all of Crimessia outside of identifying a fellow group member as an individual.

“Maggots help fellow maggot up and direct him to chamber 56. It looks like it’s in need of some time in the pink room!” hollered the commanding officer.

The youths who took it upon themselves to listen to the commanding officer helped direct the young boy down the main corridor of the auditorium towards the main office where they were addressed by what appeared to be another officer dressed in the same attire as the one who was instructing them in the main room.

“Superb accomplishment for transporting the weakling maggots. Now scurry back off to the main room. There’s still 2 more cycles of chanting left.” said the man posted in front of the room.

As the youths returned to their task the officer brought the passed out boy into a room and poured some water into his mouth to help with what appeared to be heat exhaustion. The young boy began forcing the water down his throat with what appeared to be pure reflex. After a minute of gathering himself he awoke to the face of the officer in shock he stood up in an attentive stance prepared for punishment realizing what happened to him in the auditorium a few moments ago.

“Maggot is prepared for punishment, haneous crime maggot has committed. Willing and able to receive treatment from officer”

The officer stared at the young boy in what appeared to be an empathetic expression, wondering exactly what happened to him. After a few seconds of silence he launched at the boy and gently knocked him out with a tap on two pressure points behind the neck.

A few hours later the boy awoke in camp site surrounded by forest critters such as squirrels and bunnies. “Where am I? What’s an I? Who did this to me, I should be back with my friends reciting the Supreme Leaders name. What’s a friend!?” The young boy was startled at himself for using these words he’s never heard of so fluidly. After a few moments of panic the officer from earlier appeared with what appeared to be a plate of mixed fruits and vegetables.

"Hello Ademption, I’m your father Evelyn and your entire life has been a lie. I know this may be a lot to take in at once, but I just rescued you from an isolated island formally known as Crimessia. There is no Supreme Leader. The images you’ve seen throughout your time awake have been fabricated in order to keep yourself and others like you under control. I knocked out out earlier in order to transport you to this location, my base located a few miles away from that camp.” declared Evelyn

“That’s not true! I love my leader. He’s the best no one has cared for me the way he has. What is a he?! What have you done to me? Whose me?!” screamed Ademption.

“I know this may be hard for you to take in, but your mind was wiped as a young child and you’ve been raised a sheep, ready and willing to fall in line to the whims of those sick officers. They wiped your vocabulary a long time ago removing descriptive and the identity words you seem to be so fluent with now. I descrambled your brain returning it to it’s original makeup. It’ll take some time, but you’ll remember the context of the words your using.” said Evelyn

“I’m scared, help me” said Ademption

“I will my son, and after that we will help all of your brothers and sisters locked up in that hell hold” said Evelyn

Week 5 - Cyborg (So Far)

I've opted to choose a female body for my cyborg. I don't have a specific reason behind this, but I just felt it was necessary. The quotes I chose leading into this week were fairly dark in my opinion, but looking at the cyborg just reminded me how I can find myself on the shady side of the room on occasion

- Johnny A.
